About Canyon Heights PAC

Welcome to the online source for Canyon Heights Elementary Parent Advisory Council (PAC). All parents at our school are a part of our PAC. We hope for and welcome your input and participation throughout the school year! The PAC plans and supports additional activities for our school community all year long. Fun, fundraising, socializing, and helping connect all members of school community is what we do--believing that a strong and connected community benefits our children most of all!

PAC Permission forms for Communication with Parents, and Class Representative Volunteer Role

Hello Parents!
Please look for the Class Representatives ("Class Rep") sign up sheet on the PAC notice board at school (by the main office) if you would like to volunteer for the Class Rep role. Our Class Representative network plays an important role in facilitating the building of our school community and promoting a positive school spirit at Canyon Heights.  This is a great way to participate and volunteer!

According to the PAC constitution, the Class Rep role includes: communicating ideas and suggestions from class parents to the PAC Executive, and facilitating the flow of information from PAC meetings to class parents.
We also encourage the role to include activities to foster our school community spirit, and for Class Representatives to be champions of the school Code of Conduct (Respect, Responsibility, Safety)
- Such activities may include:
- Organizing social and networking events for class parents
- Helping to welcome new families to the class and the school
 - Coordinating class teacher appreciation in December and June
We will hold a meeting later in October to introduce those who volunteer to the role.

In other PAC news, you should receive a form this week asking for your permission for the PAC to hold your email address for the year and use it to communicate directly with you. These forms resemble the ones filled out earlier in September, for the school; but these ones are solely for use by the PAC.  While the PAC blog is a great spot to find updated and archived information; there are times throughout the year that the PAC Executive will communicate directly with parents as well.

Please sign, and return your completed forms to the office.  If you have any questions, please email Kathryn Orde at Kathryn@orde.co.

Weekly Update October 3-7, 2016

Hello Parents!
Please see the school website
Hello Parents!
Please see the school website for school and district updates as well https://www.sd44.ca/school/canyonheights/Pages/default.aspx ...

Thanks to all the teachers, administrators and staff who made Meet the Teachers Night happen on last Thursday, because it's always great to see the classrooms and meet the people who spend the days with our children!

Weekly Update
Monday- Friday, October 3-7 is International Walk to School Week, to kick off the month. Please see the Safety Committee's informational flyers below for tips to walk and roll safely...and sometimes... a bus ride can help make walking more practical too.  Students can ride free this week thanks to Translink so it's a great week to try out walking and bus route combinations.  Consider purchasing a "Compass Card" so your kids can ride the bus anytime, all year long; they're available in many groceries, pharmacies, and convenience stores.

Wednesday, October 5, 2016 is World Teacher's Day! Want to know more? It's a day set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to recognize the contributions teachers around the world make in every society. Click to jump to the UNESCO site to learn more about the day's origins...
